Fellow Montpelier Resident:

Please allow me to reintroduce myself in my new role as one of Montpelier’s two Representatives in the Vermont House. I feel honored to have been appointed to this position and recognize that I have large shoes to fill based on the legacy of service and accomplishment of my predecessor Francis Brooks.

In the 27 years since my family moved to Montpelier (from my native southern Vermont), I have worked diligently in a number of volunteer positions to help make Montpelier an exceptional place to live and to do business. In my new role as a Member of the Legislature, I will continue this work and hope to expand on it to make Vermont a better place as well.

In my first partial term, I’ve played a leading role on a few key bills including:

The preparation of the “Riparian Buffer” bill (H.549) on which my Committee, the Fish, Wildlife, and Water Resources Committee, will hold hearings during the fall.

I am working to help add energy to the Payment In Lieu Of Taxes (“PILOT”) coalition. My goal is to achieve 100% funding for PILOT within five years. This will bring approximately $410,000 of additional revenue to Montpelier from the State of Vermont.

I am working on a bill to prevent tires from reaching the Winooski River and also to teach students at Montpelier High School, who are keenly interested in the tire issue, about lobbying, consensus building, and the development of public policy.

Your input is critical to our success in Montpelier. I am providing every resident of Montpelier a copy of this letter as well as a refrigerator magnet with my contact information at the Legislature, at home and at my office. Please contact me at any time. My legislative website is located at www.jonformontpelier.com.

Beginning around the first of the new year, I expect to produce a regular e-mail newsletter describing what I see happening at the Legislature, my opinions on the activity and my plans and goals for the session. Please e-mail me at janderson@vtlaw1.com if you would like to be included on the mailing list.

I look forward to serving you.

Very truly yours,

Jon Anderson
